ok...
it all started when I couldn't sleep a couple of nights ago... So I got up, played solitaire for a little while, left some shite on facebook, read the stuff in ere, still couldn't sleep...
so, naturally... I went off, found an authentic recognised IQ test and took it....
135!!!!! top 2 percent in the country and 'genius'... great stuff...
The only thing is, I know I score high on that stuff, but ONE of those points I wasn't entitled to. I feel like i've cheated... I got lucky with this one particular question.
If two cars start back to back and drive apart in a straight line for 6 miles, then they both turn left and drive for 8 miles, how far apart are the cars?
Hmmm... So you then think, the cars were 12 miles apart then drove in opposite directions again for another 8 miles each right?
So from diagonal point to point.... the distance is?
groan....
So... I guessed the answer and got it right. But I didn't KNOW the answer.
This bugs me... It led to me being wide awake at half passed one in the morning, lying in bed with a ruler, a pencil and a piece of paper and google on my mobile phone, moaning at woody that I don't quite understand the Pythagorean theory and the workings of a triangle LOL...
If one side of a triangle (right angled) is 8cm and the other is 6cm, then what is the length of the third side?? I know it's 10cm I just don't know why!!!!!!!!!!!!
So... can someone PLEASE explain to me, IN IDIOTS TERMS, how this theory is worked out.
Fanks.
Snoozy, who's a total genius but not when it comes to sodding triangles!
