FROM PLANET ROCK NEWS
AC/DC’s Scruffy Shopper 28th October 2009
A collectibles store in Cumbria had an unexpected rock legend through its doors recently who may have gone unnoticed had the shop not had a sole copy of Back In Black on sale.
Carlisle’s News & Star has news of an excellent story involving Keswick Collectibles and a rock legend.
According to reports the shop’s co-owner David Lomas thought nothing of a “scruffy geezer in a flat cap” browsing through the vinyls on sale. When the aforementioned “geezer” approached the counter with a copy of AC/DC’s Back In Black the following exchange occurred.
“Would you like me to sign it?” asked the customer.
“Er... who are you?” replied David.
“I’m the singer,” said… Brian Johnson.
The newly signed copy of Back In Black didn’t stay in the store for very long, though. Another shopper immediately paid the newly inflated price of £25 (up from £8) for the signed record.
Mark Stainton, another of the shop’s three co-owners, told the News & Star: “David didn’t recognise him. He does the books, not the records.
“He wouldn’t recognise Madonna if she came in wearing a pointy bra.
“I got a phone call from David just afterwards. He’d looked on the internet and seen pictures of Brian. He said he looked just the same as he does on stage, in his flat cap.”
