Oh and while we're on the subject.. he was in the utterly superb GALAXYQUEST.. hahaha.. when the alien hits the window of the spaceship.. I wet myself laughin when I saw that the 1st time. brilliant.

Watched a GREAT film with my lad the other day. Set in 82ish it's called 'This Is England' about (on the surface) a little lad in small town northern England whose Dad dies in the Falklands. He's befriended by a gang of crackpot skinheads who give him an identity. Its all remarkably heartwarming until the original leader returns from prison and sucks them all into the NF and general racial hatred. The end scenes are really powerful stuff. The little lad in it is brilliant.

Try 'Dead Man Shoes' by the same director! far better film IMO... but still with a bit of dodgy acting in places.... but really compelling viewing! It is a simple story of an Ex-soldier who comes back to his small home town to wreak revenge on a group of 6 local bad boys who abused his younger teenage retarded brother with drugs while he was away in the army!....

How long is the rental period...lol Hey Girl, make a cup of coffee, shut the door, switch off your phone, turn out the lights and watch that movie undisturbed from start to finish, don't miss a second of it.... I promise you that you will love it.... don't watch the 'english' dubbed version... cos it's shit! watch the Korean version with sub-titles..... man that film is an experience, not just a movie!

Aye Lorne his mother is a bit wooden in hindsight BUT the film is still great. The mother reminded me of Brian Potters one -off girlfriend on Phoenix Nights.. the one who turns out to be a snooper from the social security haha (scene where he's leading her upstairs by the hand whilst he's in his Stenna Stairlift) "the things I'm going to do to you when we get up there".
Agree with the Oldboy comments. Proper washes over you.. and like the original Ring, works way better with subtitles.
Reason for Editing: Stop getting Phoenix Nights wrong!

What do you lot make of The Exorcist? i watched it recently with my son and still think it's possibly one of the scariest film ever. The clunky effects just add to the whole oddness of it I think. I think it's the subtle sounds that get you the worst. AND I'm sure the 'spider-walk' bit wasn't in it when I saw it as a young un in the 70s.. I nearly touched cloth when that bit came on. We sneaked into our local cinema (now sadly gone) when I was about 13 or 14 to see it and I swear I didn't sleep for weeks after. Exorcist 2 is dire but 3 is pretty damn good. Give that 4th film, the prequal, a wide berth though.. cackola.

True Romance (Not seen it) Hey is that the one with Chris Slater and Patricia Arquette? Where he's obsessed with Elvis.. When she fights back in the hotel room when the bad guy is trying to find out where the money is, is incredible. Oh and Dennis Hopper too.. and the wonderful if somewhat characterless Christopher Walken.. or am I getting my movies in a muddle here ?

Nope, spot on Jon. And Lorne - 8 Legged Freaks is a quality tribute to classic 50s/60s B-Movies. Very tongue in cheek!
